Who we are
Oakland Sewer Lateral (oaklandsewerlateral.com) is a free referral service. We collect quote requests for private sewer lateral inspection, repair, and replacement in Oakland and nearby East Bay cities, and pass them to independent licensed contractors. We are not a contractor, and we are not EBMUD, the City of Oakland, or any other government agency.
What we collect
What you choose to enter in the quote form, plus anonymous usage statistics if analytics is turned on (see Analytics and cookies). From the form, we collect:
- Why you need the work, your role (for example owner, buyer, or agent), the city and ZIP code, property type, what you think is needed, your timeline, and an escrow close date if you give one
- Your name, email and/or phone number, and preferred contact method
- Any notes you write
- That you checked the consent box, and when you submitted
We don't ask for your street address, financial details, or account numbers. Please don't put sensitive information in the notes that you don't want shared with a contractor.
Like most websites, our hosting provider may automatically record basic technical information (such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested) for security and troubleshooting. We do not use advertising trackers.
Analytics and cookies
We may use Google Analytics to understand, in general terms, how people use this site: how many visitors we get, which pages they view, roughly where they come from (city or region level), and what device and browser they use. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to do this. We use these combined statistics only to improve the site, and we do not send the contents of your quote request to Google Analytics.
Google processes this data under its own policies. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can opt out by blocking cookies, using a private window, or installing Google's Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Opting out doesn't affect your ability to use the site.
How we use it
- To review your request and contact you about it the way you chose
- To match you with licensed contractors who serve your area, and share your request with them
- To prevent spam and misuse of the form
Who we share it with
We share your request with no more than 3 independent contractors that serve your area, only so they can contact you and give you a quote. Once they receive it, those businesses handle your information under their own policies. Contractors in our network may pay us a fee for referrals. That doesn't cost you anything, and you are never obligated to hire anyone.
We also use service providers to run the site. Form submissions are received and stored by our hosting provider, Netlify, and sent to us by email.
We don't publish your request or add you to marketing lists, and we don't share it with anyone other than the contractors and service providers described here. Submitting a request is not a filing with EBMUD or any city. We may disclose information if required by law.
How long we keep it
We keep requests only as long as needed to handle them and keep basic records, and then delete them. You can ask us to delete your request at any time.
Your choices
- Ask to see, correct, or delete the information you submitted
- Ask us to stop contacting you
- Ask which contractors received your request, so you can contact them directly
Children
This site is meant for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
